TV Season Review - Cobra Kai (Season 5)

You know, it's interesting that when a continuation of a film series comes about, never would I think that it would be so good. I mean, the last few Karate Kid films that came out were not perfect by any means. But this series shows that the franchise is as strong as ever that not only brings in a new generation of characters, but also is very respectable of old characters. Even maintaining consistency to the point where the show runners actually find the original actors from the films to reprise their roles instead of recasting them completely. So we now have a fifth season of the show that somehow keeps managing to maintain a rare 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Got to be good then if it's getting a high score like that. Let's kick some butt and see what's in store here:

Following the events of the last season, Terry Silver (reprised by Thomas Ian Griffith) has begun his expansion of the Cobra Kai franchise in which he calls upon some new senseis and takes over some dojos in and out of the Valley. Despite both Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang disbanding following the previous All Valley Tournament in which they lost, Daniel LaRusso (reprised by Ralph Macchio) with help from old rival Chozen Toguchi (reprised by Yuji Okumoto) begins his attempts to take down Cobra Kai once and for all, soon gaining help in doing so not just from his and Eagle Fang students, but from some unlikely places too. While all that is happening, Johnny Lawrence (reprised by William Zabka) tries to make things right with his new found family just as some unexpected news comes to him. And Tory Nichols (reprised by Peyton List) begins to doubt her place in Cobra Kai and does some secret stuff to undermine it.

Nothing really to complain about here. It's another strong season that continues to prove that the franchise is still alive and kicking. With plenty of humor, emotional moments and a lot of action packed fighting scenes, Cobra Kai is well and truly back on top. No idea if we will have a sixth season, but the ending does make it clear that it's not done yet. 9.5/10
