Random TV Show Review - Resident Evil (Season 1)

It's hard to narrow down what is the best Capcom franchise because there are just so many of them. Kind of like Nintendo with a good chunk of them being well known, though there are probably a few that have been left to gather dust. But when you really think about which of them have been adapted to screen, most have been pretty bad (with some gaining a cult following later down the line) and some just don't seem to stop. As great as the Resident Evil games are (well, most of them, anyway), the film adaptations seem to keep going despite the negative reviews and now Netflix has a TV series based on it. Not really sure what to make of it to be honest, but I guess the streaming giant that was Netflix is struggling against major studios with their own streaming services. So let's take a look and see if it's better than the films or, at the very least, be like the games:

Set in a universe separate from the mainstream one (and the film one I guess) and using the franchise's storyline and backstory as the basis, this series is about events set in 2022 and 2036 with storylines set in both years. In 2022, we focus on Dr. Albert Wesker (played by Lance Reddick) and his daughters who were conceived through suspicious circumstances and life for them takes a dramatic turn when the failing Umbrella Corporation offers Albert an executive position while dark secrets get revealed. While in 2036, a virus has nearly wiped out all of humanity, with 300 million refugees living in various settlements to protect themselves from beings known as Zeroes (humans that contracted the disease).

For all that the show is, it's decent. Nothing fantastic or perfect, but does actually come a lot further in honouring the lore of the games than the films ever did. But it definitely could do with more work if Netflix renew it for future seasons. Stick with the games for now (remakes and otherwise) and who knows, maybe this series will get good later on. 6/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
