TV Special Review - Marvel's Werewolf by Night

With Star Wars having had a few specials, albeit Lego ones that are not set in the canon timeline, this year it's Marvel's turn. We already know that there will be a Guardians of the Galaxy special for Christmas, but what many of us didn't know was this. A special that looks like it could be in every way like other MCU properties. But when I saw it, I was pleasantly surprised. In the timeline, it's not concrete, so it could in fact happen at any point. So let's take a look:

Five experienced monster hunters are summoned to a competitive hunt to determine a new leader with the power of the Bloodstone. This comes as the result of the passing of Ulysses Bloodstone (voiced by Richard Dixon and performed by Erik Beck) which leaves his widow Verussa (played by Harriet Sansom Harris) in a particularly powerful position. As the hunt begins, the hunters must also take on a dangerous monster while one of them, has a secret that could very well put the whole hunt at risk.

This is a special-done right. This is also Marvel being done right, without reliance on nostalgia. It's a great departure from the otherwise wider MCU with its spooky themes, its black and white appearance and the quite severe blood and gore that you would otherwise not see in any other Marvel property at Disney. Which makes me think that they may be going down the right path when Deadpool eventually comes into it. Definitely an experimental special, if anything, plus great that the director has made his directorial debut here with such a fine piece of TV. 9/10
