TV Season Review - The Santa Clauses (Season 1)

You know, after the trilogy that The Santa Claus ended up being, I thought that to be it. But when people talk about Tim Allen, this is probably the only other role people know him for besides Buzz Lightyear. Of course, with Disney being the big company they are today, they want to cash in on nostalgia that people have for old films. But it hasn't always worked out, with the remakes doing copy and paste of the original films without even trying to capture the spirit of them. Plus also continuations to some of their live action stuff which has had a more mixed response if anything. Still a lot of work for the company to do, but they are doing some things right, so it's not all doom and gloom for them. So all that aside, we have a continuation of the Santa Claus films, which I don't think anyone was really asking for. But I guess Tim Allen has to be doing something besides waiting for the call to be that Space Ranger again. So let's take a look:

Like the films, the TV series is centred around Scott Calvin (played by Allen) who is still Santa, but is also on the brink of becoming 65. He also learns that there is in fact another Clause which would allow him to retire upon finding a worthy successor. With that realization and the need for his family to enjoy life south of the pole, Scott sets about doing just that, unaware of what lies ahead.

It's not the most perfect of continuations as far as TV shows go, where the franchise originally started as films. But it has its charm, a few laughs here and there, with some cheesiness to go with it all. It also maintains the spirit of the films and shows that Tim Allen can still act physically as well as vocally, despite now being close to 70. Up to you guys if you want a bit of festive things from Disney, but you are not missing much here. 7/10
