Random TV Show Review - Warrior Nun (Seasons 1-2)

Last year, Netflix cancelled a lot of shows. Unfortunate for many due to some having had unresolved storylines as a result. This was one of those unfortunate shows that sadly got cancelled, which is a shame because it was pretty interesting. Every episode was named after a chapter and verse from the Bible and as such, pretty much every episode contains very religious themes. But not too much to the point that people will want to switch to something else, so that's something. Let's take a look and find out why this reasonably good show, got cancelled:

Season 1
After fighting some mercenaries, a group of nuns gather in a church where they soon start to use a holy object in an attempt to resurrect one of their own following the demise of Sister Shannon (played by Melina Matthews), the former Warrior Nun. The resurrected Ava Silva (played by Alba Baptista) takes on the mantle and continues the legacy of Shannon by continuing her fight against demons and powerful forces from heaven and hell who want control above all else. As expected, the show spends a fair bit of time on religious exposition, but manages to give us something entertaining when it comes to fighting and the performances of its talented and largely unknown cast. It's also got some pretty good visuals for a Netflix show, but nothing quite like Stranger Things I find. 8/10

Season 2
The second season is pretty much the same story as the first as Ava continues to fight evil. But the secons one, also explores the idea of other universes. Something that sadly will not be explored further because of Netflix cancelling the show. Anyway, the second season is pretty brutal and contains more great acting, a bit of romance and a good amount of commentary on religion. Pretty good stuff from the show's apparent final season. 7/10

Yeah a pretty decent show that clearly wanted to explore a lot of ideas. But Netflix never gave them that chance. A shame really, but there you go. Worth checking out if you want something like Stranger Things, at least in the visual sense. 8/10
