So here we go with the first Arrowverse show since.... well Arrow, to have an ending. Since it started, I can definitely say Supergirl is a much better take on the character than that one film that was tied to the Christopher Reeve film series. Of course, we would have animated takes too, but this one does well in keeping with the rules of the universe, especially when it became part of the same Earth in the Crisis crossover. It's a good balance of action, drama and a bit of comedy. Not to mention a lot of eye candy for fans (which is pretty normal for shows on or tied to the CW) and some pretty solid seasons which lasted a while. But the big question is, is this last one a good finale to the show? Well, let's find out:
The season begins with Supergirl (reprised by Melissa Benoist) taking on Lex Luthor (reprised by Jon Cryer) with the battle ending in defeat as he sends her to the Phantom Zone. The rest of the "Superfriends" work to bring her back, which results in using various methods, including time travel and other shenanigans. Unaware that when they actually bring her back, they also bring back an old enemy too. Plus, some things in her life as Kara also take place too, that make her question how to move forward in her life.
I find it interesting that they call the superhero team the Superfriends. Whether that's a reference to the old cartoons from way back when, is another matter. Overall, this final season isn't perfect. But it is satisfactory, unlike the few that got cancelled with their storylines being unresolved. The final episode especially is a big call back to a number of memorable characters from across the series, and who knows. Maybe, like Smallville, it too will get a comic book continuation. We'll just have to wait and see. 7/10
