Well, they are still around and for generations, the Power Rangers have fought bad guys for our entertainment. The franchise and the original show are celebrating their 30th anniversary and as is seemingly traditional for most shows celebrating a milestone like that, we have a special episode to look at. In the early days of doing this blog, I did reviews on special episodes of shows and all that. But now I feel I should do them again because it's been too long, and I have reviewed the other Power Ranger films anyway. Technically, this doesn't count as a film, but hey ho. Let's go:
In 2022, Rita Repulsa (reprised by Barbara Goodson who did the English dub voice in the original show) has returned in a robot kind of way, once again hell-bent on taking over the universe and wanting to be rid of the Power Rangers. Following the tragedy of one of the original team, the remaining members assemble to figure out how to defeat Rita while, the daughter of one of the rangers, works hard to earn her place in the team in an attempt to gain revenge.
Honestly, this is Power Rangers as it has always been. High stakes, lots of campiness and fun despite the tragic story that it depicts. A worthy entry for the franchise and one that fans will enjoy, even though its main focus is on the original team. Plus as a nice touch, it pays tribute to two of the original rangers whose actors have passed away so that's nice. Go Go Power Rangers! 8/10
