Random Movie Review - Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One (and a quick review of the original trilogy)

So I may as well say what I thought of the original films, as it looks like I haven't reviewed the first three yet (or I have, and I've not indicated where that was). Enjoyed the first one (9/10), thought the second one was a little bit weak despite Brendan Gleeson being in it (6/10) and the third one was, for the most part, OK (8/10). Right, we're all caught up now, so let's talk about this one. It's set up as a two part story and usually when you get a story that has to be told in two films, they are usually shot back to back with the intention of releasing the second part, as soon as possible to wrap thing up. Especially if the first part is left on a cliffhanger, which for this film, not so much. Also, most franchises would choose to finish after a two part adventure which was the case for much of the book series to film adaptations out there (though there is always room for more films albeit with a new cast of characters and so forth), but not so much for other franchises, and it seems to me that those franchises, are not doing as well since those two films. Regardless, it's now the turn of Mission Impossible, and it's largely been a solid series of films since it started. Some of you may not know that it's based on an old TV series, but the film franchise has become its own thing in that sense. Anyway, let's see what awaits us in the first of this two part adventure:

A next generation Russian submarine, somehow gets sunk by its own torpedo as a result of a new all powerful and dangerous AI that uses the titular process of dead reckoning. The key and its components that can be used to control this AI, become lost as a result of the explosion and a number of major players in the field, seek it out. Among them is the IMF, led once again by Ethan Hunt (reprised by Tom Cruise) who learns that his ally that was formerly part of MI6, Ilsa Faust (reprised by Rebecca Ferguson), is in possession of one of those components and that a bounty has been placed on her. Ethan also learns through a meeting of US Intelligence Community leaders, that the AI which has been given the name Entity, is something of great power that a number of governments and individuals, want control of and alongside his team, he sets out to find it and destroy it by any means. Even if he has to lose old allies, make new ones and fight old and new foes along the way.

With the stakes being higher than ever this time, this franchise is still going pretty strong. Whether it will end after part 2, is unknown at this point. But I can definitely say that I had a blast with this one. The acting is great, the humour, when needed, is good. The cast is all good at what they do and while I found some stunts to be a little unrealistic and over the top, I would expect nothing less from a big and good blockbuster like this. Can't wait for part 2! 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
