So, as I mentioned last week, Netflix had a reputation for making bad live action adaptations of anime and manga series. I haven't seen many of them, but after seeing their take on One Piece, surely the other ones they did were good too, right? Well, turns out I was wrong with this one. But unlike One Piece, I can compare this to the anime which I have seen and... yeah, the anime is better. But while we're here, let's talk about this anyway:
Much like the anime, the show is about a ragtag team of bounty hunters who chase down criminals on their Bebop ship. The team consists of the fist-fighting and marksman Spike (played by John Cho), the amnesiac Faye Valentine (played by Daniella Pineda) and the former ISSP detective with a cybernetic arm Jet Black (played by Mustafa Shakir) among others as they take on various bounties to help get by. Some more dangerous than others, but they are only happy to oblige.
I think if I were to say of anything that's good about this show, it's the cast, who are all likeable and very talented. But as for the rest of the show, it feels a little shallow and for me, it doesn't quite live up to the beloved anime that it's based on. A step in the right direction for Netflix, but until One Piece came around, not quite there in its faithfulness and all that. 6/10
