Random TV Show Review - Lovecraft Country

Yep, we are entering something that is either very similar or inspired by the works of one H.P. Lovecraft. Many of us know that he was a bit racist and judging by this show, yeah, it does tackle that very theme while trying to be weird, wacky and mature enough to qualify as an HBO or even A24 production. Sadly it was intended to continue beyond one season and despite having a second season be in development, HBO cancelled it. Not many people know why, but that fact that Jonathan Majors is in this, could be a factor. I for one, am on his side, believing that he was innocent in the crimes he apparently committed. Anyhoo, let's have a look at this strange thing:

It's the 1950s and a trio of characters, traverse the Jim Crow America to search for the missing father of one of the trio, Atticus "Tic" Freeman (played by Majors). The sets up a struggle to survive and overcome the racist terrors that await them and the terrifying monsters that could very well be ripped from a Lovecraft book. There will be racism, there will be love making (forced or otherwise) and a few other forms of mature content that only HBO can allow within Warner Brothers.

The fact that this is made under the production companies of J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele, probably is the reason why it looks like it could've been a movie or a show with a high budget. Regardless, I found it to be quite bizarre with moments that make no sense. But boy it gives me more reason to like Majors than hate him because despite those things, I actually quite enjoyed the silliness that the show has despite the subject matter. Just another show that demonstrates the acting prowless of actors of colour. 9/10
