Random Video Game Review - Souldiers

Another game from the latest (at time of this published post) Humble Choice and one that is a return to the Metroidvania style of gameplay. Basically (and in case you didn't read my other reviews of these kinds of games) it is a combination of the gameplay featured in most Metroid and Castlevania games with the look and feel, getting a similar treatment. This time around, it's from Dear Villagers, who specialize in AA rated games such as this. As well as Metroidvania, there is a hint of Soulslike gameplay too. The origins of which are from the Dark Souls games. So with all that and a retro look and feel to it, I'm sold, so let's see if this was worth being part of the usually legendary Humble Choice bundles:

The game takes place at the beginning of a war. A war that leads a band of troops into a portal, where they are to find a being known simply as the "Guardian". Among the troops is the player character who, in this world, is sent out on various missions to ultimately learn of the world and find a way to save their own in the wake of this war that will soon occur. The game plays out as a traditional 2D side scrolling game with a choice of 3 different classes, Scout, Archer and Caster. Each with their own unique abilities and combat skills which include a light and heavy attack, dodge and class specific abilities. There are also elemental abilities too, but parts of the game become limited once you decide on which element to use. Levelling up is also here too.

Overall, it's a pretty solid game with nostalgia potential in its presentation. Definitely one I had a good time with and will probably to do a longer YouTube video of one day (by longer, I mean not part of my compilation videos that I do). Parts do feel a little unoriginal and there will be some difficulty spikes as the game goes on, but it's good for what it is or what it's trying to be. 9/10
