Random TV Special Review - The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday

Just when you thought DreamWorks had parted ways with the stylised animation, here they are with yet another holiday special and one that is probably the only one I'm reviewing this year. With lots of things happening in my own life right now, it's been difficult to find time to watch the new Christmas TV specials. But here we are with the Bad Guys one, one that I suspect was not necessarily wanted, but still a welcome thing for the fandom. I mean the film was great, and I hear the books (which at time of review, I haven't read) are great too. I guess DWA are just being picky as to which films they will use stylised animation for because it is something that takes a great deal of work, but worth it all in the end. So let's see what these Bad Guys get up to at Christmastime in this short, but sweet prequel to the film:

The Bad Guys plan a heist during the holidays, as they believe that people will be too busy in their homes on Christmas Day. But when they end up unintentionally causing problems in the city, Christmas is at risk of being cancelled, putting their heist plans in jeopardy. So they go about trying to keep people happy and merry by doing "good" deeds, which may mean that they may not be as bad as they make themselves out to be.

The special is fine. It's pretty much what you expect to see in a TV special like this. It's basically how the film plays out, but on a smaller scale with not too much risk and having a Christmas theme to it. So a perfectly serviceable special for the fandom and among DWA's best TV specials out there. Not much more to say than that. 7/10
