I think out of the two of us, my sister was the bigger Pokémon fan. Watching the anime from beginning to end (well until she got fed up with seeing the seemingly immortal Ash Ketchum who kept having birthdays at the same age and eventually was retired), playing most of the games (mainly the portable ones on consoles like the Game Boys, the DS, the 3DS and the Switch) and on occasion, watch the films too. I tended to keep clear of it all, but did enjoy some of the films and while not having played the games in full (yet), I have invested a lot of time in Pokémon Go which you could say is the dream Pokémon game and one that you can get exercise with. So how is the franchise doing these days, you may ask. Well, it is still around, just not as big as it once was. We're still getting shows, still getting video games and not many, but some films. But today, I'm looking at this stop-motion contribution to the franchise. At only 4 episodes long, let's see what this is all about:
The show is centred on a new concierge called Haru (voiced by Karen Fukuhara) who, at the Pokémon Resort, sets out to provide her Pokémon guests with the most fun and relaxing holiday they could ask for. But in turn, she must learn how to relax herself in order to do the same for her adorable and sometimes troublesome guests.
Well it certainly looks like a Pokémon thing and one that is a little funny and, in a way, calming. It's got its charm and the characters are somewhat memorable, as are of course the main attraction, the Pokémon. In terms of animation, it's stop-motion and stop-motion done right. I guess if you like Pokémon, you'll have a good time with this and even if you are not, it's a pretty tame show with some comedy and shenanigans. 9/10
