Random TV Season Review - Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

In the Monsterverse, we get a lot of great giant monster battles, and we are getting more later down the line. What the films however don't do as well across all its films unless you have a talented cast, is the human drama. Now, that's not to say that having it is not needed. It is needed, of course, but needs to be worked on a great deal. So in an attempt to give us something that tries to do a better job of the human aspect, Apple TV+ decided to distribute this series which is set at two different time periods with connections to each with its characters. Having already seen the other show set in this universe, it did pretty well on the human drama front. So hopefully this will do the same, let's go:

In the 1950s, cryptozoologist Bill Randa (played by Anders Holm and briefly reprised by John Goodman) and scientist Keiko Miura (played by Mari Yamamoto) become involved with the early development of Monarch as they begin researching the giant monsters. In the mid 2010s, not long after Godzilla's re-emergence, two half siblings from the Randa family meet and set out to find out the truth of their missing father's connection to Monarch. Monarch being the organisation that has been monitoring the giant monster activity for a number of years. Both groups being assisted by Army officer Lee Shaw (played by father and son duo, Kurt and Wyatt Russell).

Yeah, I say this does well in doing human drama in a world dominated by giant monsters, in the best possible way. The cast have charm and when the monsters do appear, they don't steal the limelight from the main stars, which are of course the Randa family and Shaw. It's serious, fun, and does make me believe that there is hope for the human side of the MonsterVerse. I just hope it continues being as strong as this. 9/10
