Video Game Series Review: Uncharted (Drake's Fortune to Golden Abyss)

Now when I first got a PlayStation 3, Uncharted was one of the few games I wanted to get for it and since getting the first game, I've followed the series ever since. Its been the most critically acclaimed game series since its launch and it truly shows what the PlayStation 3 is capable of. In my opinion, it feels more of an interactive, blockbuster film than a video game because everything in the games are great. Now that there's been 4 games released for this franchise, I thought it would be fitting to do a review of the games so far so without further ado, let's take a look (I'm doing them in chronicle order so that it makes more sense):

Golden Abyss:
Golden Abyss is the first in chronicle order, the 4th game released and the first game for the PlayStation Vita. Nate decides to seek out the Golden Abyss which is believed to hold gold beyond your wildest dreams. He is joined by his mentor, Sully, former work partner, Dante and Dante's ex-girlfriend and love interest of Nate's, Chase as he goes to find the Abyss. But Dante has been working with a warlord named General Guerro to help him find the Abyss and take down Nate. The game features the usual gameplay seen in the other games but uses what the Vita has to make the experience feel fresh and new. Its the only game in the series so far to not be developed by Naughty Dog but instead by Bend Studios. Its an enjoyable game and it shows what the Vita is capable of in many ways. 9/10

Drake's Fortune:
As the very first game to be released in the series, this game pretty much showed what we as players can expect from in future games. This time around, Nate goes to the islands of the Amazon to find an ancient statue that curses anyone who touches it and turns them into a monster that looks like the one from Dead Space. Rivals of Nate's are also after the statue for them to use against the world. Its now up to Nate to stop them at all costs with the help of Sully and Nate's new love interest, Elena. The game is great and enjoyable to play, but is quite short for a first game. It does get better though. Trust me. 9/10

Among Thieves:
This game for about 2 years, has been the most critically acclaimed game to date. Nate somehow gets involved with a museum heist being done by a former partner of his (again work related) Harry Flynn and his girlfriend, Chloe Frazer as they go to steal an oil lamp which Nate believes will contain evidence of an expedition that Marco Polo did up in the mountains. Nate however soon realises that Harry is working for a warlord named Zoran Lazarevic and Harry then betrays him and gets Nate arrested. Sully then gets him out of jail and together, them along with Chloe and Elena (who we see later on) go and seek out the lost city of Shambhala up in the mountains (Sully however backs out early on). The game is better than the last one as its longer, more exciting and features online multiplayer for death matches and co-op which work out quite well. Overall, another great experience, worth doing. 10/10

Drake's Deception:
Third game released and Nate has never looked any better. Nate along with, Sully, Chloe, Elena and newcomer, good friend of Nate's, Charlie Cutter travel around the world to find the legendary lost city called The Iram of the Pillars, which is said to be kept buried in the sand of some dessert somewhere. Cutter and Chloe however, back out early on as they discover about Nate's rival in this game being Sully's former boss and girlfriend who knows a great deal about Nate. The game continues to be fun and enjoyable and with the game now being more epic than ever before, its another masterpiece for the PS3. Nice one Naughty Dog!! 10/10

Overall the series has had little downsides and is one of the best game franchises that I've ever played and I hope that Naughty Dog make more games in the future. 10/10 overall.
