Now a number of game have attempted to create a mini game compilation with no success (Rabbids being one of them). But when it comes to Nintendo, no matter what you think of them, they will attempt to deliver when it comes to their games. WarioWare is one of the more unique minigame compilations as it goes at a rapid pace which makes the game more fun and enjoyable, but at times, short in length. So let's take a look at the games (and don't worry, we'll be looking at the other Wario games another time):
Mega Microgame$!
So Wario in this universe forms the company WarioWare, Inc. after seeing potentail in making games because it may be a goldmine for him. However, he does it with the help of his many friends, all of which have different tastes in gaming. As the first game in the series, no body really knew what to expect. But playing the different campaigns given, its basically works as this. You're given 4 lives and all the minigames take only a few seconds for you to complete it (well not that exact much but close to it). Failure to do so, and you will lose a life. Lose all your lives and its game over (but I don't need to tell you that). After a set number of minigames are completed, you'll go into the boss round which has no time limit as such and once that is completed, the campaign is over (unless of course you play the campaign again in which case it will carry on with you being given an extra life if you lost one and the minigames will be the same, but more challenging (like less time to complete it or more things or do). All sorts of stuff then get unlocked such as difficulty modes and whatever else. For the first game in the series, it was a very good and unique idea and I believe it was this game that made it the king of minigame compilations. Let's see if that crown will remain, in the other games. 9/10
Twisted (footage review)
Wario gets annoyed with his GBA SP and has one of his friends go fix it, but instead, it gets into an invention of his friends' and after toying with it, has himself and his friends make minigames using the concept of motion sensing. The game is more or less, the same as before, but takes advantage of motion sensing that was also featured in various other games on the GBA console, towards the end of its time in the gaming industry. This game was never released in Europe so therefore, I missed out on what could've been a great experience, hence the reason why this is more of a footage review. From what I've seen, it looks like a great and innovative game that would give players, a much better motion sensing experience than other games that used that feature on the GBA console. 8/10
Touched!
Like with before, the game has Wario and friends make minigames based on the concept of the DS console and its features (touchscreen, stylus and microphone to be more specific) and all the games do just that. Each of the characters' campaigns have minigames that are for specific parts of the DS such as rubbing the touch screen or using the microphone. As one of the many launch games for the DS, its another great game that I'm sure will keep you entertained while on the move. 9/10
Smooth Moves
Being among the many Wii launch titles (but being released a month after it's launch), we get the first original game in the series for a home console (and when I mean that, I don't include the remake of Mega Microgame$! for the Gamecube, despite offering more stuff than it's original GBA game). This time around, the games have you use the Wii Remote in different ways such as holding it like a waiter, or a rope. It's more suited to being used at parties than on your own (its more fun that way), but as a whole, its a relatively good game that further introduces the Wii, following on from Wii Sports and Wii Play, but in a more fun way that will keep you coming back for more. 9/10
Snapped!
This one is not the best one in the series and just by looking at the image above, you can tell why. It attempts to take advantage of the DSi's camera, but does a very bad job of it as you have to be in the right lighting. No fun at all and I really don't see any need for me to carry on with this review, because there isn't much to say about it. 6/10
D.I.Y
As the title suggests, in addition to the usual selection of minigames, you get a chance to create your own. However, exciting as that may sound, it's a very complicated process, but fortunately Wario and his friends are here to help with just that with some very straight forward tutorials and a whole lot of creativity options to choose from. Its one of the best games in the series so far with creativity being the main objective this time around and for what it is, it works really well. 9/10
Game & Wario
So according to Wikipeida, this is more of a spiritual successor to the WarioWare games than an official entry in the series and has a few minigames that were originally going to be technical demonstrations that would be pre-installed on the Wii U, before there were too many ideas going for it. But it has Wario and his friends in it, so it counts. Unlike before where all the minigames go at a rapid pace in different campaigns, all the characters have only one minigame each, all of which makes use of the Wii U Gamepad. It has a total of 16 minigames, all of which are fun, but would only be played at parties more than anything else. Its not the strongest in the series, but all the games in it are fun, despite the discontinuation of rapid paced games, but that's not a problem for this game as such. 8/10
So as a whole, its a great series of minigame compilations that all make use of the console that they get released and use it to it's full potential and it will last longer than other minigame compilations which you could finish in under an hour. The king of minigame compilations is right here. 9/10
