Random Movie Review - Mongol

As some of you know, I've never really been a fan of foreign films nor films based on historical events, but that's not to say that I hate them because I don't. Its not the sort of film that I would go and watch at the cinema unless its worth seeing. This of course comes from someone who plays a series of games based on historical events and eras and the reason for that is that I find the events that those games are well thought out by the developers and while its mostly fictional, it is a good way to get gamers the education they need about history (even if its mostly killing the enemy). As for why I'm not a fan of foreign films, its because you have to focus heavily unless there is an option to watch the film with English dubbing. But ultimately, foreign films aren't the kind of films I tend to review because I just don't find them as interesting as more main stream films like The Avengers and Star Wars. But I'm going to make an exception today as we look at a film about Genghis Khan:

Its 1192 (the time of our ancestors) and we meet a guy called Temujin (played by Tadanobu Asano) who is a prisoner in the Tangut Kingdom. He conveys the memories of his past through a series of flashbacks. The majority of the film is just showing us these flashbacks as the rise to power of Khan.

The film is OK I guess. It isn't really that interesting for me and was just a frustrating bore fest all over. While I do admit the film does give us our money's worth and there is some good stuff to like about it, I just didn't really get into the mood for it. Its just not that interesting for me to give it a positive rating, but its a very good attempt at giving us a look into the world of Khan. 7/10
