Random Movie Review - Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie

So one of the big Internet stars that I first came across was the AVGN who just as his name says, is a nerd who plays video games which are often bad ones and gets angry, going as far as doing lord knows what to the games like s**ting on them or send them back to whence they came. The idea of a film came about all the way back in 2008 where James Rolfe who plays the titular character, aspired to be a professional filmmaker and after seeing his webseries get more and more popular over time, it gave him the chance to make a film about the nerd using the funding that his followers (otherwise known as the fans) had given him over the years as well as through an Indiegogo campaign. The film would then be filmed during 2012 with masses of information about the film being put onto Rolfe's website Cinemassacre. And then a couple of years later, the film was finished, had its premiere and now we can finally get it on home media. But unlike other films about internet celebrities that I have got hold of, this was the first that came out on Blu-Ray, DVD and through digital means and I couldn't be more happier. So with it being in years of development, was it worth the wait? Let's find out:

So the film begins by explaining about the mass burial of 2 million copies of the so called worst video game of all time, Eee Tee for the Atari 2600 which has a game executive in the present called Mandi (played by Sarah Glendening) have the game company she works for called Cockburn Industries Inc., work on an intentionally poorly made sequel, Eee Tee 2 which if the AVGN reviews, would then give them money as fans tend to buy the games that the AVGN reviews instantly and it boosts sales. And speaking of the AVGN, we come across him and his assistant Cooper Folly (played by Jeremy Suarez and why Kyle Justin isn't the assistant, I don't know, but would make more sense) who are working on the former's next review. Over the years, the AVGN has been disheartened by the fact that his fans are buying the games he reviews, despite him telling us all to stay away from them. And it only makes things worse that the shop he works for called GameCops (a spoof of the real life GameStop shops) has him sell the bad video games. One day, his fans come by (featuring a cameo of Andre from Black Nerd Comedy) and convince him to review Eee Tee, a game of which he calls the worst game ever made and has scarred him as a child. But after experiencing nightmares, he then decides to find the burial of the 2 million copies to find and review the game with Cooper and Mandi tagging along (unbeknowest to the Nerd that Cockburn are funding the whole thing) and as you would expect, a whole pile of s**t is about to go down.

Even though this film's budget was entirely from the fans, I have to say, it does look like a big budget film even if there are more practical effects than green screen, but that is to be expected. Its well acted, well directed (even if parts of the film do bring up some concerning questions) and has countless cameos of nearly all the people who have played a part in making the Nerd what he is today. Not only that, but if you get the DVD or Blu-Ray, there is a Nostalgia Critic review of the film which I was expecting, but was pleasantly expecting it. Ultimately, its a film that is dedicated to the fans that provided the budget for the film and it just goes to show that even Internet celebrities can make great, if not questionable films and its great. 9/10
