Top 8 Summer Blockbusters of 2015

I have to admit, every year, the quality of films around the summer and parts of the year, have got better and better than ever before. That's not to say that every film you see nowadays is great as there are a fair few which aren't so good and there are reasons for it. The curse of Sandler and Bay, Hollywood wanting money over quality and others. But that's not what this list is for. This list is for great films released during the summer which as you'd expect, are big so therefore, they are known as blockbusters. But keep in mind that we wouldn't have such a thing like summer blockbusters if it wasn't for the legend that is Stephen Spielberg. So for this list, the films have had to be released in June-August, I have had to see and/or review them prior to this list and it can be any film released on home media, in theatres and I'll even count some short films as well. So let't get to it:

8 - Ted 2
Sometimes, you just have to ignore what critics say and just go out and have a good time. That's what I got with Ted 2. It is a very laugh out loud film that is packed to the brim with jokes and even though this was made by Seth MacFarlane, there is a good balance of adult humour and general humour which is great. Now we just want that Family Guy film and we'll be happy.

7 - Minions
With the Minions stealing the show in Despicable Me 2 and just by their popularity, many of us would predict that they would get their own spin-off and they did. It may not be as good as the films they originally came from, but with a lot of laugh out loud moments and references to the things that happened in 1968, not to mention actually telling people that conventions are a real thing that happens everywhere, its going to be a fun ride for everyone, adults and children alike. I'm still yet to see an Illumination Entertainment film that can be just as good or better than the Despicable Me films, but there's hope, just as long as they don't keep making films for that series because if they do, that's really all they are going to be known for and no animation studio wants to do that.

6 - Spy
I think the combined forces of Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig have made films that are typically not that good generally, into films that are good. And now they have entered the territory of espionage spoof comedy with this film and guess what, they did it again. They made a film which would normally be a cringeworthy fest, into something that is actually genuinely funny and enjoyable to watch. A typical desk worker, turning into a spy. A recipe for disaster for some, but not for this duo. And their next film together, just so happens to be about some ghost bustin' so don't worry fans, its in good hands.

5 - Lava
Its good to know that Pixar still keep their tradition of having a short film be seen before the main film and the short films, still are great to watch. This is just a simple love story of one volcano trying to find another volcano through the means of song and doing this for millions of years just to find a soulmate. That seems like a long time for some, but it all ends well in the end. Now I look forward to seeing their next short.

4 - Ant-Man
Spider-Man is all about spiders, so naturally Ant-Man would be all about ants, right? Well kinda. The last film in Phase 2 ends the phase with the debut of Ant-Man, a superhero who can shrink to the size of an ant and lead ants into battle among other talents. I think its fair to say that Marvel films that come out from Disney, often seem to do well both critically and commercially and this is another one of those film. Edgar Wright may not be on the directing chair like originally planned, but this film is a great film, but the experience is best being seen in 3D to really get the experience of being the size of an ant which this film does a good job of.

3 - Jurassic World
It seems that Universal are doing well this year, having broken box office records with their latest entries in the Fast & Furious and Jurassic Park series. Jurassic World is the long awaited 4th entry in the series that helped Stephen Speilberg introduce the idea of summer blockbusters and its great. Its got a fully functional park on the island where the first film took place and it has plenty of dinosaurs some working with humans (a first in the series) and others being hostile towards them. And it looks like Chris Pratt's streak of good films hasn't stopped just yet so great stuff. Worth a watch if you love dinosaurs and enjoyed the original 3 films.

2 - Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
Following the success of the third film, the Mission Impossible trilogy has not backed down of great films and they just keep getting better. Now we come to the 5th entry where the IMF has merged into the CIA and everyone is required to show up for presumably evaluation. Tom Cruise's character however is busy on taking down something called the Syndicate and calls upon his team to help him stop them. Its a great film with plenty of action sequences, impossible stunts and surprisingly great acting all around.

1 - Inside Out
I have to say, this was an emotional film both literally and personally too. It was a very hard sit through which is rare in a number of films and it was just great the way Pixar decided to tackle this new masterpiece of theirs. Its the only film I've seen so far this year to not have any flaws in it at all and it is just a fantastic film that explores one's emotions when having to deal with a lot of changes. I think we can all agree that many of us have had to go through that stage that Riley in the film went through, at some points in our lives. But anyway, this proves that Pixar are back in good form and we can hope to see many more great films from them in the near future. I don't know if they can get back to the streak they had with all their films from Toy Story to Toy Story 3, but we can only hope.
