Movie and West End Show Review - Bend It Like Beckham

So our second bonus post is a double review of a story told in the mediums of the west end and in film. Its all about this Indian girl who wants to be a footballer, but her commitments to her family's Indian ways, makes her dreams not some true. The story is the same for both mediums so the reviews of both will be based on the differences between the two and which one is better. So let's get our kit on and play some football:

Film
So in the film, we meet an Indian called Jess (played by Parminder Nagra) who loves football, but her parents forbid it because she is a woman. She generally plays in the park with friends and eventually, this draws the attention of Jules (played by Keria Knightley in her breakout role) who just so happens to be the team captain for the fictional women's football team, the Hounslow Harriers. Jess manages to impress the coach of the team Joe (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who puts her on the team, but it won't be long before her parents find out and comes to having fall outs with them and Jules. Its been a while since I saw this film last so my memory may not be that good, but from what I remember, its a pretty decent film that any fan of football or Beckham will enjoy and just goes to show that women can do anything and that the parents should never be in control of their childrens' futures. 9/10

West End Musical
So after the success of the film, it wouldn't be until 2015 where we would get to see a musical stage version of it. The story remains the same with some slight alterations as well as a change of cast members (some even coming from the film, but playing different roles) and the inclusion of musical numbers. This one I prefer more to the film as its funnier, got great music, great set designs and quite possibly the best dance off I have ever seen thus far. Just wish the legroom in the seat I had would be better and also didn't have a migraine just minutes before the show started, but oh well. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
