Random West End Show Review - Gypsy

Now of all the west end shows I've seen this year, this one is very interesting. It stars Umbridge herself Imelda Staunton as well as the 5th Doctor Peter Davison. Just like other shows, it started on Broadway and then eventually made its west end debut. Based on the memoirs of the famous burlesque stripper Gypsy Rose Lee as well as the 1962 film of the same name, let's get on with the show:

So we meet Rose (played by Staunton) who is a mother of daughters Baby June and Louise. She tries to push her children into becoming star actresses with June as the centrepiece and Louise as one of the extras. Most occasions, this leads to no success until Rose meets a former agent Herbie (played by Davison) whom is convinced by Rose to become the girls' agent. Many years later, the girls are all grown up and then comes the problems of acting almost all of ones life.

Its a very good show that shows why pushy mums are not great to have as mums as it can lead to their children to move away from them. As such, I find the old fashioned and American style of the show to be very well done and a great combination all around. And the acting of the cast (especially Staunton) is top notch. 9/10
