Movie Review - Kung Fu Panda 3

After a long wait, we get the long awaited third instalment in the Kung Fu Panda saga, the plot of which was hinted at the end of the last film. So DreamWorks are wanting to make this a 6 film saga and with this third film, they have reached the half way point of it and I got to be honest, with every film, it just keeps getting bigger and better just like any new entry should be. So let's have a look at it:

In the spirit world, Master Oogway (reprised by Randall Duk Kim, the first time to do so since the very first film, excluding TV specials and short films) is in battle against his former brother in arms, Kai (voiced by the real life J. Jonah Jameson himself, J.K. Simmons) but ultimately allows Kai his chi, but with a warning that the dragon warrior Po (reprised by Jack Black) will stop him one way or another. Meanwhile in the real world, Po comes to realise that the next stage in his dragon warrior ways is to become the teacher and when news reaches that Kai has ventured to the real world to take all the chis and that Po's real father (voiced by Heisenberg himself, Bryan Cranston) has come to find him, its up to Po to learn the ways of the chi and to take on his greatest challenge yet, to teach a group of pandas who were previously believed to have been taken down many years ago, to fight.

Like I said, the films just keep getting better and better. The animation is fantastic, the comedy is great, the story while a bit predictable and a bit "been there, done that" at times is good and the whole seriousness of the situations seen is well executed. I'm not sure how the next 3 films will top this, but I'm glad that DreamWorks are carrying on with this, even if it wasn't what we expected from a Jack Black film in the first place. 9/10
