Movie Review - Doctor Strange

So here we are at the last Marvel film to come out this year and as with MCU tradition, this film will be establishing a new character to the universe because we've already had our MCU film on developing already established characters earlier this year with Civil War as well as some Agents of SHIELD and Netflix Marvel shows to fill up the gap. I'm not saying its a bad thing, but it can be too predictable when you know how Marvel deal with things and Marvel being the guys who would buy you a drink at the bar, are completely fine with us fans figuring it out. So now we come to the introduction of one of Marvel's more mysterious but lesser known characters, Doctor Strange (well at least up until this film came out). Most risks that Marvel have taken so far have paid off greatly as proved with Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man and I hope that this film follows suite. So let's dive into what the trailers have described as a dimensional journey where who knows what you will find on the other side. 30 years in the making. This better be worth it:

So we meet a group of people who have powers that can manipulate the dimensions that they are in and there are some good people and bad ones too. But of course, our main attraction is the man himself, Doctor Stephen Strange (played by a man who goes by the names of Sherlock, alternate Khan, Smaug and now Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch) who is an acclaimed neurosurgeon. Living the good life, his life turns upside down when he gets himself in an accident that makes him unable to do his work and kind of like Batman, goes on a journey of discovery and learns the ways of manipulating dimensions while also dealing with a major threat to the world (and no, its not Thanos).

So one thing I liked about this film is that it continued the drama pacing that Civil War had with some humor here and there. And like with Ant-Man, it also managed to throw in some great visuals which I expect nothing less from Industrial Light and Magic. However as great as a film it is, it does at times become repetitive with scenes where Strange manipulates time which I get is what he's trying to do to get through sticky situations, but its too repetitive and kind of loses focus with the film. But having said that, the continuity with the MCU is there as the Avengers are mentioned (and the tower and a certain god of thunder make an appearance) as well as the Infinity Stones and some other stuff too (and yes, Stan Lee as well). So yeah, a great film, but the excitement was ruined by some idiot who told me and my friends to shut up because apparently our voices are boring, but it was through the adverts so it wasn't too bad (and he got his comeuppance when a woman told him off for his language and that children were in the cinema too). 8/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
