AC22: Movie Series Review - Lady and the Tramp

A lot of people will know this film well. Why? Because it has that iconic scene of the two titular dogs sharing a plate of spaghetti bolognese and they end up eating the same piece of spaghetti which ends with them accidentally kissing one another. But despite that, this film is actually probably one of the earliest Disney films that despite being for the younger demographic, its pretty dark at times. So let's grab a plate of Italian food, sing that song and dive into this film:

Its Christmas Day in 1909 and a man gives his wife a puppy for Christmas which they choose to call Lady (voiced by the late Barbara Luddy). Lady begins to enjoy life with her new owners, even going as far as becoming acquainted with the local dogs. All seems to go well, but soon enough, the behaviour of the owners becomes rather cold which Lady doesn't like, but is soon warned by a stray dog called Tramp (voiced by Larry Roberts) that they are expecting a child and soon enough, she will be disowned. Later on, the couple have the child and Lady grows fond of it to the point that she is determined to watch over it. But he life soon turns sour when the couple leave for a trip and have someone look after the house with her trouble making cats and life for her is made worse.

So why do I say its dark? Well it shows life as a dog and how some humans may misunderstand what they are trying to get across in their body language and barks. Plus the climax at the end is very dark too, but I won't spoil it here. So dog owners or people who are fond of dogs may like some elements of this film, but not all of it. But at least Disney try to show that dogs need to be respected and treated the right way and you should never take things to extremes with them when they do bad things. I hope I got that right. But overall, I enjoyed the film and its ages very well. Its certainly the night, a beautiful night. 9/10

Oh and in case you're wondering, I have seen its direct to DVD film and personally, its not too bad, but it didn't give the impact that this film did. But its enjoyable at best, but not one I would watch over and over again. 6/10
