Random Movie Review - Star Trek: Beyond

So for this month, I'm going to review films that came out last year that until now, I never got the chance to see it at the cinema for whatever reason that would be. So we begin with our latest Star Trek outing which going against tradition of odd numbered films being bad, its actually pretty good and serves well as a dedication to the late Leonard Nimoy who played Spock in the original series and made subsequent appearances in Star Trek media following the end of the series until he passed away, as well as Anton Yelchin who played Pavel Chekov in the reboot/alternate universe Star Trek films of which this film is a part of who died in a freak accident (died at a very young age too at 27) last year (speaking of which I apologise to you Trekkers for not mentioning him in my Best of 2016 film list). So let's journey into the final frontier to go where no man has gone before, once again:

Its been three years since the start of the USS Enterprise's five year mission and things are happening. Kirk (reprised by Chris Pine) applies for a promotion to Vice Admiral and commanding officer of Yorktown, Sulu (reprised by John Cho) reunites with his family, Scotty (reprised by Simon Pegg) wants to keep the ship operational and Spock (reprised by Zachary Quinto) and Nyota (reprised by Zoe Saldana) end their relationship while Spock also receives word that Spock Prime (who was played by Leonard Nimoy and served as the original Spock in the original timeline) has died. The crew are then sent on a rescue mission at short notice, only to find that its actually an ambush and many of the ship's crew get captured and the ship is destroyed, though fortunately everyone manages to get off before crash landing. And so the crew take on their greatest challenge yet along with forming unlikely alliances with one another and seeking help from the most unusual of people.

Its another good Star Trek film which feels more like a filler film than anything else, but when you have the original director who did the last two films directing a completely different sci-fi film altogether, there's not much you can do about it. But anyway, its a good film that shows how forming alliances with one another is important for character development and has great visuals like the two films before it. Its also very action packed and everyone (including the newcomers), play their parts well. I would even go as far as to say that this is one of the best Star Trek films out there and it serves well as a perfect dedication to the two actors who we have lost. It will be sad to not see them anymore in future films, but I'm glad the film paid tribute to them in a respectful manner. 9/10
