Movie Review - Kong: Skull Island

So to address one big question that gets asked, no this is not a remake nor a reboot to the King Kong films. It is in fact a whole new take on King Kong and it just so happens to take place in the same universe (dubbed the MonsterVerse) as 2014's Godzilla. Yes you heard right. King Kong and Godzilla are in the same universe and will be battling it out in a future film for this universe. But for now, let's look at this new take and with an all star cast, its bound to be good:

Taking place before Godzilla, an American pilot (played by John C. Reilly aka Wreck-It Ralph) and a Japanese pilot (played by Miyavi) crash land on an uncharted island and engage in combat before the latter gets crushed by a giant ape. 29 years later in 1973, former British Special Air Service captain James Conrad (played by Tom Hiddleston aka Loki) is hired by a government agent called Bill Randa (played by John Goodman aka the live action Fred Flintstone) to help guide an expedition to this uncharted island which has been dubbed "Skull Island". Bill also recruits a military unit called the Sky Devils, led by Colonel Preston Packard (played by Samuel L. Jackson aka Mace Windu and Nick Fury) and a whole host of other specialist people as they venture to this island. What they find there, may just have them understand who is king.

I got to say this is a great film. Not only does it bring back one of the most iconic monsters of all time, but it manages to reinvent it by giving us a more original story to what we have had in the past and make Kong feel like a king just be the shear size of him. Its well acted, its pretty epic (though not quite as Godzilla mind you) and its just brilliant. Gets me hyped for when he fights Godzilla which will be pretty epic. Oh and before you leave, make sure to watch the post credits scene at the end. You won't be disappointed. 9/10
