Whether its the Summer or Winter Olympics, I will always be up for watching them. I just prefer them over other sport events and I'm not even a sporty person. One thing I have always wondered for a while is how the UK team managed to start doing these events at the Olympics and just last year, we got this little film and when you have Wolverine and that guy from Kingsman doing a film together, you know its going to be great. So let's go for the gold (or try to anyway):
Beginning in the year 1973, young Eddie Edwards (played by Taron "Eggsy" Egerton) dreams of going to the Olympics and tries to do various events, but failing miserably. His mother (played by Jo Hartley) unconditionally supports him while his father (played by Keith Allen) discourages him. Eventually, he gives up the summer Olympics in favour of the winter Olympics and upon finding a sport to compete in, he goes to train, making some friends and a few enemies along the way.
One thing that is always heard in the score for this film is Chariots of Fire which I feel is very appropriate for the film that we have here. Not only that, but it is very well acted, it's to a certain extent accurate to the actual story of Eddie the Eagle and its also one of the few based on actual events films that doesn't take things too seriously, but still managing to pack in some drama and a little bit of comedy along the way. Plus it can be seen as pretty inspirational for those wanting to compete in either Olympic events. So yeah, worth the watch and definitely worth the gold. 9/10
