So having already tackled the likes of the Governor, Terminus, that hospital and plenty of walkers, Rick's (played Andrew Lincoln for the 7th season running) next main threat comes in the form of Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan aka the Comedian in Watchman and Thomas Wayne in Batman V Superman) and the Saviors. This is going to be one intense season. So season 6 left us on a cliffhanger wondering who Negan beat the living hell out of. But for the sake of spoilers, I'm just going to address the season as a whole, spoiler free. So let's get to it:
So the first half of the season focuses on the remainder of Rick's group getting used to living in a world under the rule of Negan and the Saviors. And for the first time since season 4, the group is separated and spread across several safe zones. We already know about Alexandria and The Hilltop Colony, but we also get to see The Kingdom, Oceanside and the Saviors' home turf, Sanctuary. Then with the group back together, the second half focuses on all the safe zones and a group called the Scavengers forming alliances with one another to prepare for war against the Saviors while dealing with losing those that the Saviors have killed or joined them.
I like this season. It shows our favourite characters in a more emotional and helpless state and just by the premiere alone, you start to hate the Saviors right from the start. Plus its nice to have a new main antagonist who while isn't as bad as the Governor, is still pretty messed up. Some episodes do have some cheap green screen effects and CGI, not to mention that some episodes are more depressing than others, but shocking nonetheless. So as the show approaches its 100th episode, it's good to know that it doesn't intend to die down anytime soon and who thought a man with a baseball bat could be so charming yet brutal at the same time. 9/10
