Random Movie Review - Freddy VS Jason

Well something like this was going to happen one way or another. So following the so called closures of the original Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th film sagas, fans begged for there to be a crossover and well that's exactly what we got. And in light of a recent announcement that there is a crossover in the works that will put Freddy against another iconic slasher monster who just so happens to be a demonic doll (as well as this month being Halloween of course), I felt there was no better time than this to talk about this film. It may be just for the fans, but maybe some of us who aren't too familiar with Freddy and Jason will get some enjoyment out of this too. Well we shall see as we dive into this crossover:

As previously mentioned, this film is set after Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare and Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday with (spoiler alert) both films having the titular characters be killed off. Freddy (reprised by Robert Englund) has lost all forms of power that he used to have when haunting people's nightmares and as such, many of the people that reside on Elm Street have forgotten about him. Having a plan in mind to get his strength and power back, he goes to find the dead body of one Jason Voorhees (played this time by Ken Kirzinger) and with the remaining amount of power he has, he resurrects him and under his influence, he sends Jason to cause panic and fear on Elm Street in the hopes that he can one day return to power. But things get complicated which results in the two monsters going against one another while getting Freddy's potential victims caught in the midst of battle.

As it is with many horror films, this one has much of the usual horror film tropes. Mainly the one about a group of teenagers having fun in all the ways you could think of. However despite that, much of the film is focused on those teenagers with Jason and Freddy coming in from time to time. Of course its all about the build up to the eventual fight between the two, but even when that comes, it just feels like it was only made for the fans and general movie goers would be disappointed by how predictable the film can get. But despite all of that, it does make me hope that one day (and with the right people involved) we can get a cinematic universe where many of these iconic slasher monsters will co-exist in one universe. But until then, you will like this film if you are a fan, but not so much if not. 7/10
