Random TV Season Review - Supergirl (Seasons 1-2)

So completing the Arrowverse line-up, we go to the only one of the shows that takes place on a completely different Earth (Earth-38 to be exact in the Arrowverse at least) as well as the only one that didn't start on the CW but instead on CBS (in the States at least). So previously there have been a number of TV shows to do with Superman and its not just the cartoons like Superman: The Animated Series and Legion of Superheroes but also live-action shows like Smallville and Lois & Clark. But as for his Kryptonian cousin Supergirl, we have only been given a live action film which wasn't very good and some appearances on cartoons and animated films (the latter two being part of a team of heroes rather than go solo). I will admit I had my doubts about Supergirl being a TV series, but eventually after seeing what Arrow and The Flash were like and how they were going, I decided to give it a shot and my doubts were wiped away. So let's have a look in the last of these series of Arrowverse reviews (but not the last one period):

Season 1 - Supergirl's Orgins
Many of you already know about how both Superman and Supergirl arrived on Earth so I won't spend too long talking about that. But as with every version of both characters, Kal-El (played by Tyler Hoechlin who's appearances in the show are very minimum) and Kara-Zor-El (played by Melissa Benoist) are both in shuttles leaving Krypton following its destruction with Kara being tasked to look after her then very young cousin. But her ship was knocked off course and landing in the Phantom Zone where it stayed for 24 years. Eventually arriving on Earth, Kara realises that her cousin is now much older and has since become Earth's protector Superman. She is then taken in by a family of sorts and we then cut to several years later where a 24 year old Kara is the assistant to Cat Grant (played by Calista Flockhart), the CEO of CatCo Worldwide Media in National City. One night, Kara is forced to reveal her powers to help save a plane full of people from crash landing in the city and since then, she takes up the role of Supergirl and assists her adoptive sister Alex Danvers (played by Chyler Leigh) and her boss Hank Henshaw (played by David Harewood who is secretly an alien) at the Department of Environmental Operations to help save National City from alien threats while also welcoming aliens who only seek to live on her Earth. And just like with the Green Arrow and The Flash (the latter of which appears in a crossover episode later in the season), she two has a circle of trust who know her secrets. So its a pretty good series that does Supergirl justice after having previously been either out of the spotlight or in the spotlight but not in the way fans would've liked. It can be too cheesy and (not to be sexist when I say this) a bit feminine at times. But its a very enjoyable watch and its just nice to have a show about Superman's cousin that doesn't have said cousin totally under the shadow of Superman himself. And its not all Kryptonian stuff in there which is good and leaves room for originality and stuff. 8/10

Season 2 - The Wrath of the Luthors and the Fate of Daxem
So this season is a little more political than the first as it spends the first half with Supergirl and the DEO dealing with the feuds between native humans and extraterrestrial beings and how better to keep the peace while also making everyone happy. But matters are made worse when the Luthors build a weapon to wipe out all the aliens. While that is happening, Kara's best friend James Olsen (played by Mehcad Brooks) becomes the vigilante Guardian and secretly helps protect National City when Supergirl isn't around with help from Kara's other best friend Winn (played by Jeremy Jordan) who can be best described as being the Oracle to Guardian. Also, a survivor of Krypton's neighbour planet Daxem, arrives on Earth (and is played by Chris Wood) and starts a relationship with Kara with the latter being unaware of his royalty background. So to sum it up, there is a lot happening in this season. But among it all, it manages to handle all these different storylines well and gives time for character development and other things too. 9/10

So that's it. Supergirl may be very distant from the rest of the Arrowverse, but makes up for it by giving us almost exactly the same amount of action, drama and light hearted moments that the shows have been known for. Its fits in the universe quite well and focuses purely on Supergirl and never makes us feel that she is a sidekick in her own show which is great. So that's it for Arrowverse stuff for now and you are now all ready for the next seasons of all the shows. It should be good. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
