AC23: Random Movie Review - The Night Before

When it comes to Christmas Eve, all sorts of things can happen. People could be out partying, people may just want a quiet night in or a combination of the two (if such a thing can occur). So most of you know Point Grey Pictures as being the people behind a number of adult comedy films such as This is the End, the controversial The Interview, the adult animated comedy Sausage Party and much recently The Disaster Artist. But in light of the season, I decided to look at their so far one and only festive film and boy we are in for a wild ride with Seth Rogen, Nolan's Robin Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Falcon himself Anthony Mackie. So let's dive in:

On Christmas Eve in 2001, Ethan Miller (played by Gordon-Levitt) loses both his parents in a car accident. Since that horrific event, his best friends Issac Greenberg (played by Rogen) and Chris Roberts (played by Mackie) make a promise that they will always spend Christmas with him and up to 2015, they do just that. Along the way, they hear of The Nutcracker Ball which is an invite only event and they long for the day to get their hands on an invite. In 2015, the tradition ends seeing as Issac is about to become a father, Chris is a famous football player and Ethan is a struggling musician working in a hotel. But when Ethan finally gets his hands on the invites, they trio then spend their last Christmas Eve tradition together with the intention to go to the Nutcracker Ball later that night. And then a whole pile of stuff begins to occur.

Having seen a lot of Point Grey films, this was about as I was expected. Drug usage and alcohol consumption at an all time high, crude adult humour being used a lot and the usual Point Grey crowd making appearances throughout as well as the previously mentioned Seth Rogen. But all I can say is that it is a great film. It shows what people like doing on the night of Christmas Eve and it even has elements of Christmas Carol in there. Its a very funny film, but not one to show to kids mind you. 9/10
