AC24: Random Movie Review - Deck the Halls

So another series of Advent Calendar posts has come to an end and on this day of Christmas Eve, we look at one of the worst Christmas films there is (at least from what the critics have said). As we all know, one of the hardest things to do at Christmas is decorating our homes and when appropriate, our work spaces. Some people like to keep things simple whereas others will go all out to make their space overwhelming with light and so on. It does however make me wonder how big the electricity bills are, but hey its only for one month so its all good (mostly anyway). So let's see if this film decks the halls with joy and fun or just a pile of s**t:

The film is set in a Massachusetts town where local optometrist and the so called "Christmas Guy" Steve Finch (played by Matthew Broderick) resides with his family and as the so called "Christmas Guy" he knows everything about the holidays and likes to stick with traditions such as carol singing, holiday pictures with Christmas jumpers and so on. But these things soon become a thing of the past when a new neighbour named Buddy Hall (played by the legendary Danny DeVito) moves into town with his family. Taking on the job of a cars salesman, Buddy isn't happy with his house being invisible from space and goes about turning his house into the brightest house in town. Of course this upsets Steve and the pair go to war with one another to see who becomes the town's "Christmas Guy".

As you would come to expect, this is not a good film. It borrows elements seen in very similar films that came before it and despite having two big names in the film, its still not very good. Some of the jokes aren't funny and there are moments where I wonder if it should've got a higher certificate rating than what it got (here in the UK its a PG). So maybe not the best film to end this set of advent calendar posts on, but I have seen far worse films than this believe me. 6/10
