Movie Review - Early Man

So its been a while since I last watched an Aardman film (though generally it normally is due to most of their work being stop motion) and I'm happy that they are still going despite their flagship franchise Wallace & Gromit probably not having another short film in the near future. So previously I looked at what would've been their caveman film if they stayed on at DreamWorks Animation and I guess this is what they decided to end up with. Caveman films are not the most original of ideas I won't deny. But its nice for different studios to do their own take on it. So let's see how early this is:

Set in the stone age (obviously), an asteroid hits the Earth and kills the dinosaurs and other inhabitants. The cavemen who survive, come across a ball and along with some stones and other equipment, they create the game of football. Many centuries later, the kingdom that they made has flourished into a forest where we meet the film's main set of characters. Dug (voiced by the man with some Fantastic Beasts, Eddie Redmayne) is a member of the tribe who one day, winds up in a Bronze Age city when their leader Lord Nooth (voiced by the Norse god of mischief, Tom Hiddleston) threatens to destroy their homeland in search of Bronze. Having witnessed the game of football in action, Dug makes a deal with Nooth to save the tribe's homeland which is to challenge the champions of football which if his tribe win against them, they take their homeland back. But its just a question of how his tribe will become footballers or any kind of sportsmen.

I'm not a fan of football and I never have been since my school days. But I do enjoy films about football and this one is a very good one. Its takes two unoriginal ideas and merges them together to create a great film. Its not the most perfect of Aardman's many works, but it is a fun watch that's full of British humour and shenanigans among other things. Football fans will enjoy it and general movie goers will enjoy it too. 7/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
