TV Season Review - The Walking Dead (Season 8)

So the end of another season has come and it's time to review what is arguably the most action packed season of The Walking Dead so far and probably the most emotional one since the beginning of season 7. Among all things that we geeks watch, The Walking Dead still seems to be the most watched show on the planet and for good reason. It's still considered among the best portrayals of how a zombie apocalypse can play out even if the zombies in question are less of a focus in the later seasons. So let's see how action packed this is:

Beginning with the 100th episode of the show, the entire season focuses on the all out war that sees Rick (reprised by Andrew Lincoln) and the combined communities of Alexandria, Hilltop and The Kingdom pitted against Negan (reprised by Jeffery Dean Morgan) and the Saviors. Both sides gain advantages and disadvantages along with a heavy amount of casualties from both sides. But as we reach the second half, various members of both sides begin to question if their ultimate plan is the best way to move forward, following the death of a key character who has been part of the show since the very first season. All that and Jadis (reprised by Pollyanna McIntosh) and the Scavengers get caught in the middle of the battle while Oceanside debate on their options for survival and Maggie (reprised by Lauren Cohan) who is now leader of the Hilltop, meets a group of survivors who give her plans to help make a better future for the community.

Its a good series. It keeps us on our feet as to who will survive and who will not (and trust me there are loads of deaths in this season and not all of them are walker deaths), we get some quite shocking revelations about some of the characters and it ends on a satisfactory note. While the last season felt like the heroes were not being as tough as they were in earlier seasons, this time they are tougher, meaner and pretty much go to war right from the start. I think after 115 episodes, its still as strong as ever with the occasional misfire here and there. But the future does look bright so let's see where our heroes will go from here. 8/10
