Random TV Season Review - Luke Cage (Season 2)

The sheriff of Harlem is back fresh from saving New York with the other Defenders and ready to be an indestructible badass once again. Dedicated to the memory of the late Reg E. Cathey who plays Luke's father in this season, this season is actually pretty good. Each episode is named after a song by the hip-hop duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth and although an improvement over the first season, it isn't without its flaws if any. So let's return to Harlem and see what chaos Luke Cage makes:

After defending his home turf along with saving New York with the other Defenders, Luke Cage (reprised by Mike Colter) has become somewhat of a celebrity with some of his supporters cashing in on the action and others just wanting to carry on with life as we know it. But when a Jamaican comes to Harlem with the intent to take over the borough while also having similar powers and abilities to Cage, Cage stops at nothing to take him down while also dealing with some bad guys and gals more closer to home too.

I will admit that the pacing in the Netflix Marvel shows tend to be pretty bad (especially in Iron Fist) and the second season is again slow with its pacing. But when it starts to get going, it actually gets pretty good. The story is somewhat tragic but works pretty dang well. The acting is good and I agree with critics in saying that aside from Colter, the standout performance of the season came from Alfre Woodard who plays the troublesome councilwoman Mariah Dillard. A big improvement over the first season which was good as well I must admit, but this season is far better and many fans will feel satisfied upon finishing it I'm sure. 9/10
