Random Video Game Review - Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

A little while ago, I had a PC that was OK for personal use for a while. But over time, I wanted one that could handle not just old games, but new ones too. But during that time, I managed to play a good few games and one of those is this one. A problem that I personally find in many games marketed as having two controllable characters is that most tend to not have co-op in any shape or form which as someone who quite frequently plays with other people (friends mainly), its best to say its annoying. So this brings me back to this game which itself is one of those games which makes me wonder if the developers of these games ever catch on that they are making games that should have co-op play of some capacity. But anyway, let's have a play at this:

The game's story is about a duo of brothers who pay respects to their long departed mother before learning that their father is decaying also. In order to save him, he tells his sons that they must collect water from the Tree of Life in order to save him and so they set off on a journey to do just that while encountering many challenges, enemies and allies along the way. So in what can be described as a bizzare way of movement, the player controls both brothers using the two thumbsticks which I've always seen as quite disasterous, but it actually works quite well here. Each have their own abilities like one is strong and therefore able to pull levers and carry heavy objects. While the other can reach high places (with help of course) and can go through small spaces. As the player, we are often required in the game to move both brothers in an attempt to keep the ball rolling so to speak. Much of the dialogue is in a fictional language so most communication between characters is done through gestures, actions and expressions. As for the graphics, they look very good just like most indie games always strive to do.

So as it goes with most indie games, it won and got nominated for a few awards and rightly so because while I still strongly feel that a game marketted with having two controlable characters at the same time should not be single player, the game actually does do well in that part. Its relatively easy to play and lots to do in it. And it actually feels like one of those cinematic games except that there is actual good gameplay in it this time. 8/10
