Random Movie Review - Rocketman

I think its safe to say that the success (or lack there of critically) of Bohemian Rhapsody has started a series of biographic films on some of the world's greatest musicians. So next up is a man who has given us some of the greatest music of all time next to Queen and is still standing today despite retiring from music all together. We are in for a good time here so let's see Rocketman:

The film begins with Elton John (played by Taron Egerton of which co-starred with John in Kingsman: The Golden Circle and also sang "I'm Still Standing" as an animated anthropomorphic ape in Sing) going to a addiction rehabilitation session dressed in a flamboyant costume where he recounts his life through flashbacks. We are then treated to a largely musical based portrayal of John's life from being a young aspiring piano player (while dealing with his uncaring parents) to being the household name that he is today while dealing with the likes of drug and alcohol addiction and his homosexuality.

If I'm being honest, this is a great film. It manages to do a very good job of going through Elton's life while having his music further the plot. Some parts are difficult to watch which was probably why it got censored or outright banned in some countries (lord knows why). But it is what it is; a biographic of Elton John's life but told in the form of a musical that uses his songs. He certainly is and will always be the Rocketman we know and love. 9/10
