Random Movie Review - The Walk

Well this film is quite something. So as we all know, a film based on the life of a real person has to be done right. Of course we recognise that not everything will work well into a film, but by doing it right the film makers are keeping the person's legacy alive. But sometimes making a film about someone's life while they are still alive is also OK too. I mean Rocketman was made with Elton John having a major role in its creation because well he is still alive and kicking (unless you are reading this in the far future). And its kind of the same with this film, but its mainly talking about one major thing that this guy did and believe me it is insane. So let's see what we got here:

Narrated by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in character as french street performer Philippe Petit, the year is 1974 and Philippe is enjoying life as a street performer despite having crowds of people loving him but the police not so much. Following a performance where he attempts to eat a hard candy and injuries his tooth, he goes to the dentist and while he waits he sees a picture of the Twin Towers in New York. Analysing the picture and wanting to pull off a huge but dangerous tight rope performance, he goes about planning this event while recruiting people to his cause which he calls the coupe. What follows is a lot of planning, a lot of people involved and one dangerous stunt that could very well make history.

Its kind of depressing now that such a dangerous but great stunt like this could never happen again. Not just because of the 9/11 attacks, but because there will probably never be towers that can be very tall and paired together like this again while also having a special bond between one another. And sure enough, those events did indeed make history as it gave the towers some much needed attention despite so many people at the time calling the towers ugly. But as for the film, its pretty good. It starts out as a live action slapstick routine in Paris before switching to a typical heist planning film and then switching again to be an edge of your seat thriller where anything could go wrong. All you just want to know is if Philippe can do this dangerous stunt and not care about anything much like how he ignores everything but himself and the cable. Its a great film overall and a lot of fun with plenty of thrills and a bit of vertigo too. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2
