Random Movie Review - 12 Strong

It of course goes without saying that everyone who was alive in 2001 will no doubt remember the 9/11 attacks. It changed the world as we know it forever and made many of us realise that its not as safe as we thought it was. Terrorism can be best described as someone wanting to express their views in the most extreme way they can which involves a lot of explosive materials. Those sorts of people can be compared to a lot of villains from all sorts of media who themselves do similar acts. Ultimately an act of terrorism is not the way to express views or want something done. I find talking and being around loved ones to be a more diplomatic way of doing it. So why do I talk about this in this review you may be asking. Well this film is set shortly after 9/11 and talks about a group of soldiers sent to Afghanistan which was the basis of a non-fiction book called Horse Soldiers and itself is the basis of the film. So let's get into it:

A US army captain called Mitch Nelson (played by the god of thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth) plans to move to a new home with his family on 11th September 2001 after receiving a new assignment. After hearing of the devastating terrorist attacks in New York, Nelson volunteers to lead his squad known as the 595 into Afghanistan in an attempt to ally with political leaders and further prevent war that may be occurring there.

To best describe how I feel about this film, I think it manages to do well in trying to capture the feelings of what the warbound Afghanistan is like. It has a solid cast who perform well in their roles and the film as it should be, focuses more on the facts than the fiction of this true story. It may not satisfy everyone and probably may not be enough to educate people on the seriousness of terrorism. But for what it is, its a decent flick and has a surprisingly happy ending to go with it. 8/10
