Random Movie Review - Shutter Island

So a long time ago way before Leonardo DiCaprio was an Oscar winning actor and about two years before Mark Ruffalo became the new Hulk for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the pair would be working with one Martin Scorsese on a film that is based on a novel and would also in a clever way, combine the neo-noir with the psychological and the thriller genres. In addition, it also attempts to pay homage to films in the film noir and horror genres with a particular interest in the works of Alfred Hitchcock. With all of that, this to me looks like my kind of film. So let's see if all these different things working together, paid off:

The year is 1954 and US Marshals Teddy Daniels (played by DiCaprio) and his new partner Chuck Aule (played by Ruffalo) travel to the titular Shutter Island in an attempt to investigate the island's psychiatric facility after one of its paitents goes missing. With only a cryptic clue and the innconvieniance of stormy weather upon arrival, the pair go about doing this while uncovering a lot of things as well as taking on some of the people there who may not be themselves any more.

Its not bad for a film featuring these great actors. It is in every way a Martin Scorsese film with his flair being very noticeable throughout the film. It's got thrills, chills and a few good moments that show off how good these old hands in acting are. A good flick overall. Probably won't be for everyone, but still worth a watch. 8/10
