Random TV Season Review - Doom Patrol (Season 1)

So we complete the month of DC TV shows by looking at another DC Universe Original if you were living in the States. As for the rest of us, you will just come across this on some streaming platform or channel somewhere. Anyway so out of all the shows I have done this month, this one I have never actually read from the comics. I have read lots of comics for most other DC properties, but this one I haven't. What's quite reassuring about this show is that they are using some well established characters so there is some familiarity there. But after watching this, it was good. I really enjoyed it. So let's take a look:

The Doom Patrol are a group of individuals who have all gained superpowers through tragic accidents. Kay Challis (played by Orange is the New Black's Diane Guerrero) gained an enhanced multiple personality disorder which she gained from years of trauma and through some kind of experiment. Rita Farr (reprised by April Bowlby from Titans) was once an aspiring Hollywood actress until being exposed to toxic gas that turned her into a being that can change body shapes at the cost of struggling to maintain a solid state. Larry Trainor (reprised from Titans by Matt Bomer and also played by Matthew Zuk) was an Air Force pilot who had a being made of energy live inside him which upon meeting, made him suffer severe burns which led to him having bandages all around him and yet live for so long. Cliff Steele (reprised from Titans by Brendan Fraser and also played by Riley Shanahan) was a former NASCAR driver whose brain now lives inside a robotic being. And finally there's Cyborg (played by Joivan Wade) and many of us know his origin story. All work together as part of the Doom Patrol team led by the Chief (played by ex James Bond, Timothy Dalton) who myseriously dissappears one day and so the team must try and find him while dealing with their past lives and battling their own demons.

You know what really made me like this show. It was one character and that character was Mr. Nobody (played by pop culture royality Alan Tudyk) who is the main villain, the main narrator, the main comic relief and frequently breaks the fourth wall to basically do the job of CinemaSins (or more accurately TVSins). He is such a joy to watch and listen to, but some of his jokes don't work well because of the show's status of being a DC Universe Original in its origin country and just another TV show everywhere else. Not a bad thing, but when you hear jokes about him trying to take over the streaming service, you do wonder what he is on about. So putting him aside, I also really like the other characters. They each have their moments to shine and get so much development that you wonder what on Earth are we going to get in the second season. It may put some people off due to its sexual innuendos and sometimes forced drama. But its pretty good and worth watching if you want to see DC do something with their lesser known characters. Oh and to those wondering if this is the same Doom Patrol seen in Titans, its not for some reason and is considered seperate in its own reality. 9/10
