Everyone remembers the film Groundhog Day. It was one of those films that explored how someone can experience a loop of the same thing, but every time doing it from a different perspective. It was such an iconic film that so many film makers have tried to use the same concept for their own films. So here we are with another one of those films and this time it comes from the mind of Duncan Jones who is widely known as the son of the late David Bowie and has made not many films, but most of you will know him for making Moon and that one film based on the Warcraft video games. So let's see what we've got here:
The film focuses on US Army pilot Captain Colter Stevens (played by the great Jake Gyllenhaal) as he wakes up on a train headed to Chicago. But not all is at it seems when the train explodes and he awakes inside a dimly lit cockpit. There he learns that it is his mission to find the suspected bomber in an event that apparently has already happened. But as he continues this so called simulation, he may also find a way into an alternate reality in the process.
It works well as a film. Keeps things nice and simple with using the Groundhog Day concept with the sci-fi elements of having the events play out in both a simulation and a possible alternative reality. A really enjoyable film worth watching. 8/10
