Random Movie Review - Superman: Red Son

So while Marvel is more well known with their "What If" stories and even have a series called that, DC tends to not use that wording all that often. But in this case, they debated about how a Soviet Union raised Superman could play out. Originally a three issue series released under their Elseworlds imprint, here we have our answer. I must admit, I really like those Superman stories where they through the Man of Steel into a "what if" scenario as well as all those team up stories and some of his mainstream stories too. Of course most of those stories are about his powers, his values, his principles and so on, and we get a taste of that in this film too. So it's the 37th film in the line of direct to home media films by DC. So let's get to it:

In the Soviet Union during the year 1946, we meet a boy who is trying to escape some bullies. He is saved however and reveals his powers to a girl who then convinces him that using his powers, he can be a hero to the country. A decade passes and the boy grows up to become Superman (voiced by Lucius Malfoy himself, Jason Issacs) whom under the command of Joseph Stalin (voiced by William Salyers) becomes a hero to the Soviet Union and a propaganda film is made about him. Not everyone is grateful to him however and the US President tasks Lex Luthor (voiced by Diedrich Bader) to develop a countermeasure against the Man of Steel whom soon changes from hero to anti-villain following a series of events that leads to many other superheroes wanting to take him down. Though remaining unaware that an even greater threat is out there.

Now before I saw this, a friend saw it before me and said not to buy the figure set because it's a spoiler. Honestly, it's not really a spoiler because it just shows Superman having noticeable but minor changes to his costume (and the front cover of the Blu-Ray also has him in that same costume). But its known that some people are known to misunderstand the concept of a spoiler. Anyway the film is good. Nice to see a different Superman and in a big way too. It explores the world of 1946 and also explores the values and principles that this Superman is willing to abide by despite there being people who think very little of him. Worth a watch if you want something a little different to a traditional Superman story. 9/10

Movie Review - Inside Out 2

I guess a sequel to the first makes sense here. I mean, for the most part, this franchise is all about the subject of growing up and with ...
