Random TV Season Review - Arrow (Season 8)

Eight years ago, no one would have thought that DC could do what Marvel have been doing so well on the big screen. The only difference is that its on the small screen. You may have heard me say before that Arrow was the start of a shared universe of sorts called the Arrowverse and after so long, its been a good ride. The hero was reinvented, lesser known villains and heroes became more well known, and we had a lot of great storylines too with a lot of action, betrayals, redemption, family ordeals, well choreographed fight scenes and because this was shown on the CW, a lot of hot actors and actresses with a bit of LGBTQ+ thrown in too. It's hard to imagine how such a little show originally set out to be a Smallville spin-off could be such a huge hit. So the final season is here. Let's go and save his city for what may be the last time (or not):

So for those of you who remember the Elseworlds crossover, Oliver Queen (reprised by Stephen Amell) made a deal with the Monitor (reprised by LaMonica Garrett) to fulfil various missions at the cost of his own life as the looming crisis slowly comes into play. During this time, the remainder of Team Arrow protect his city in his absence while in the distant future, Oliver's children are battling their own battles before time travel shenanigans bring both teams together just as the Crisis begins.

So for a final season, its actually pretty good. It does follow what other shows have done with their final seasons in that it's not a traditional around 20 episode length. Often people do wonder why shows do that, but in the case of Arrow, it manages to bring all loose ends to a close while focused solely on the build up to the Arrowverse version of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Plus it also gives us a bit of an open-ended ending which may lead to another show to take its place or for the characters to appear in the other shows. But anyway, it's been a good ride and it's a shame that after eight years, it's come to the end of what has been a great but not perfect series which no doubt has influenced TV in many ways. I do hope to see these great actors and actresses again in other projects as I'm sure many productions would love to have them on board. 9/10
