Random Movie Review - Zodiac

To a lot of people, the best killers (fictional or not) are those who try to be clever with how they do it. The Origami Killer in Heavy Rain used origami figures to give fathers their trails to see how far they would go to save their loved ones. The Riddler from the Batman universe uses riddles to in a way help The Dark Knight himself as well as his allies into finding his victims. Those are just two examples of killers who are clever. It's probably a mighty inconvenience when you come across these kinds of killers because most people are out for their blood only to become incredibly annoyed when he or she throws their way a lot of puzzles to get to them and their victims. So this brings us to this film which is based on a non-fictional book and has three Marvel stars headlining it. So chances are that this film will be good, but let's see as we dive in Zodiac:

In the late 60s and early 70s, a serial murderer known as the Zodiac Killer, terrorizes the San Francisco Bay Area while leaving letters to taunt the police, leaving bloodstained clothes and sending ciphers to local newspapers. One such newspaper known as the San Francisco Chronicle receives encrypted letters written by the titular killer who threatens to murder many people unless his coded message that contains his identity is published. Political cartoonist Robert Graysmith (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) correctly deciphers the message of which is not the killer's identity, but his superiors at the newspaper firm don't take him seriously. But as time goes on, we learn more about the killer and whether he gets what is coming to him (or her).

Its not easy to make a film about one of the most infamous killers especially as its one that is clever and isn't your typical open and shut case. Its also not easy to accurately recreate a historical setting, but somehow the film manages to do both pretty well. We keep having to guess who the killer is as more and more questions come to us watching the events unfold. It is a superb film I have to say. Understandably confusing and well acted by the three headline actors and everyone else within. And its on Netflix right now so if you need a film that tests your brain, this would be it. 9/10
