This has been the longest season out of the whole show. It like many other shows, was affected by the pandemic. But it seemed to take a different approach to how many other shows coped in these challenging times. The tenth season continued as it was during the 2019/2020 season of TV, but what was originally the season finale had to be delayed to October as post-production couldn't be completed in time due to the lockdown that the USA had at the time. After the original season finale aired, the showrunners decided to make an extra six episodes to make up for what would've been the 11th season. So this meant that the 10th season had in total, 22 episodes which like I said, makes this the longest season of the show so far (most of the previous seasons had no more than 16 episodes). So its been a long wait to finally see the end of this season, but we know some development has been occurring during the unexpected breaks. We know that this show's final season will be season 11, many of the characters will be having their own spin-off shows, we still have those Rick Grimes focused films to look forward and further adventures in Fear The Waking Dead. But for now, let's finally get a review of this long tenth season done:
The original 16 episodes focuses on the survivors continuing their war against the Whisperers which reaches its conclusion at the hands of an unlikely and formally antagonistic ally. The six additional episodes focuses on various events including the return of Maggie (reprised by Lauren Cohen), the fractured relationship between Daryl (reprised by Norman Reedus) and Carol (reprised by Melissa McBride) and we learn what become of the group of survivors that got captured by armed guards and some much needed (and formally unused) character development for Negan (reprised by Jeffery Dean Morgan).
Like it is with most seasons, some of the cast return and others go their separate ways either to start anew elsewhere or be killed off. But at the end of it all, most of our favourite characters are still there and probably will remain for much of the final season. It's also difficult to forget that The Walking Dead family are so committed to making the best use of the comics in the show as they can, even during the pandemic. Kind of nice in a way and me and the fans certainly do appreciate it. As for this season, yeah its long. But it definitely continues its scare factor and gives us more opportunities to enjoy seeing our favourite characters on screen. Who knows what the last season will bring, but one thing is for sure; there will be more walkers to kill and probably a few more villainous survivors too along the way. 9/10
