Time once again to look at a non-DC and Marvel superhero series. This time around, the series has a lot of characters that are based on many DC and Marvel heroes. There's even a team that is very similar to the Justice League in this show, and it's animated, too. Interesting how some of the best superhero films and TV shows are animated, which I guess in a way shows that you can do so much with animation that you wouldn't necessarily be able to do in live action form. It's also another series that attempts to bend on the genre to make some heroes be the villains, and it's pretty bloody too despite the name. Made by The Walking Dead's very own Robert Kirkman (with others) and produced by the people who thought an adult animated comedy set in a supermarket would work, this looks to be an interesting show. So let's take a look:
The series centres on Mark Grayson (voiced by The Walking Dead's very own Steven Yuen), an ordinary teenager who happens to have a dad (voiced by the no nonsense J.K. Simmons) that is a superhero. Not just that, but the most powerful superhero on the planet. After reaching the age of 17, Mark begins to gain his own powers and thus becomes the hero known as Invincible. He gets taught the ropes by his dad and eventually learns of the many other heroes that are on Earth and secret government stuff too. But Mark remains unaware of something terrible that may see Earth's most powerful hero be its greatest threat.
For something that isn't Marvel or DC, this is a great series. The animation is fantastic, the characters while obviously based on DC and Marvel characters are great and although the violence can be too much for one person to handle, it kind of makes sense given the motives that each character has for doing what they must do. Plus, like most shows, it also shows us the struggle Mark has on balancing his superhero persona with his own personal life which while it's not done in an original way, it's relatable for many of us. I believe this may be Amazon's first attempt at an original adult animated series (not counting Lower Decks because it's only an original because in the UK, we don't have Paramount+ yet) and for a first attempt, it's great. 9/10
