Random TV Season Review - Batwoman (Season 2)

Keeping with DC, we have the latest Batwoman series which is also the first CWverse (as its now called) series this year to be broadcast before the others in the UK (most likely due to Channel 4 having the rights over Sky). It also has quite a few changes. The first and most obvious one being a new gal in the titular role when Ruby Rose decided to leave after one season following some kind of back pain and a need to rethink things (something of which she was able to do during the pandemic). The last series also left things unresolved due to the pandemic getting in the way, so I had hoped that at least the first couple of episodes of this season would resolve that. Let's see if it did:

Homeless ex-convict Ryan Wilder (played by Javicia Leslie) is surprised to one day find the functioning Batwoman suit, which she uses to be the new Batwoman and fighting crime to avenge her foster mother's death. Not everyone is happy with her newfound purpose however, but over time the allies Kate Kane had become her own as do her array of villains. Throughout this season, she takes on not just Alice (reprised by Rachel Skarsten), but also a few other well known Batman associated villains.

Despite this series being a soft reboot, its content is pretty good. Javicia Leslie does well to make the character her own and not have to trail through the shadow that Ruby Rose left. People still wonder if Batman will appear, but I'd say just be paitent and give it time, considering WB's stance on having the caped crusader on the small screen. As for the show, it's still very much action packed with some great fight scenes, a few racing scenes and some very good performances too. There's even a few appearances from some Arrow cast members too. 8/10
