Coming from August's monthly Humble Bundle is this strange but particularly interesting game. Survival games are not something I haven't played before, but with this one I find it looking to be less violent than others I have played due to how family friendly it looks. But just because it looks that way, it doesn't mean it is family friendly (case and point: Conker's Bad Fur Day). Regardless it looks interesting, and I got it in a bundle of games for a reasonable price, so let's take a look:
The player character finds themselves in a place called the Hollow after following the advice of a talking yet mysterious crow. What looks to be like our world, is actually a world plunged by darkness. Only way out is to defeat the enemies, save the people of this world (called Drakes) and rebuild their homes before darkness takes over. Gameplay largely revolves around exploration, building and defending either alone or with up to four other players. By rescuing the Drakes, you can raise them, build homes for them and reap the rewards of a thriving village, just as long as you leave them happy and cheerful. Like Minecraft, this game is built on being a procedurally generated world with all sorts of enemies and things to find. As you build, you may want to consider making networks of waypoints to get to these areas quickly if needed.
This game is a bit confusing. It's a procedurally generated game and yet seems to lack the actual endgame of making it back home (spoiler alert). But despite this, it's cute and worth your time if you have friends that are interested in this kind of game. It is however a bit empty here and there, so you may end up playing it for a couple of hours and then call it a day. But I found some enjoyment in it, but wished there was more. Looks nice though. 7/10
