Random TV Season Review - The Witcher (Season 2)

It's been an interesting time for Henry Cavill. Once known as the great Man of Steel (but had appeared in other things previously such as Tudors and Stardust) for the DC Extended Universe and now finally catching his big break in this show. A show based on a video game series that itself is based on a book series and all of this is giving Cavill some leverage over being Superman... at least, so we are led to believe, anyway. So here be the second season of what many are calling Netflix's answer to HBO's Game of Thrones and Rotten Tomatoes has promised a bit of fun in this one. Whether we believe that or not is another matter, but let's take a look at this second season:

Following from the first season (and there may be spoilers if you have yet to see that season), Yennefer (reprised by Anya Chalotra) sets a forest on fire to defeat the Nilfgaardian army and thus bring an end to the Battle of Sodden. With Yennefer having gone missing since the battle, Geralt (reprised by Henry Cavill) takes Princess Cirilla (reprised by Freya Allan) to his childhood home, so she can learn more about herself and her powers. All largely an adaptation of the second book in the series, Blood of Elves.

The second season is, as Rotten Tomatoes puts it, a lot of fun. It (as all subsequent seasons of shows should be doing) expands on the first in all the right ways and opens itself up to all kinds of feelings as characters learn more about themselves and continue to explore this fantasy world we have been given. The first book and season had been largely all short stories whereas the idea of character building for a more interconnecting story per say, may be off-putting for some had it not be a fantasy which of course this show is. Looking forward to seeing the third season if we are getting one. 9/10
